Pinewood Fire District is pleased to announce that it was the recipient of a 2016 Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Grant that provided $5380 for the purchase of a thermal imaging camera. The camera will be placed on one of the District’s ambulances.
By using this equipment’s infrared technology to see through clouds of smoke, Pinewood firefighters are now able to identify victims, pinpoint fires and recognize structural dangers before they cause injuries or deaths. The imager can also be used at accident scenes to locate victims thrown from vehicles, check liquid levels in tanker trucks and detect chemical heat reactions or fires within a box trailer.
The assistance provided by this grant not only increases our emergency response capabilities, but also the likelihood of a favorable outcome for victims of fires and accidents.
